Term two Mihi Whakatau

All the children who started school since term 1 week 2 were formally welcomed to Halswell school today in our Mihi Whakatau.

A Mihi whakatau is traditionally used for welcoming, introductions, openings and for other events which take place off the marae.

Mihi = to greet

Whakatau = to settle something into place; like a leaf gently falling into place

The Ahuriri Assembly Show!

We are so proud of the Ahuriri Spiders and the singing in assembly.  We could hear their beautiful voices and see the actions so clearly.  When you are only 5 years old performing in front of so many people is pretty special!

A Week of Exciting Learning!

 The Bug Man Ruud

The marvellous Bug Ruud came to visit Ahuriri with a few of his friends.  He kept us captivated with exciting facts, thrilled us with his pet insects and alarmed us regularly with their wriggly antics.

TOCK will save the World!

Tock the robot came to see us in the afternoon to help us to be kaitiakitangi (guardians) for the environment.  We had lots of information about recycling, re-use, re-invent and reduce.

Toast Cafe

In Ahuriri, we are very food orientated, with lots of breaks for healthy snacks, morning tea, first and second lunches. It is no surprise that our Hobbit-like tendencies also extend to Discovery. We usually bake or cook on Funday Fridays and this week was no exception. Toast Cafe is back!

The children choose flowers for the tables from our studio garden.

They set the price.
It is very good toast and completely worth $15!

They pay with counters.
They spread toppings.

We love eating toast!
We serve each other and enjoy washing up at the end.

Elgregoe Show

This week we were lucky enough to have the best show with Elgregoe.  The show was all about our values and anti- bullying. The children and the staff were mesmerised!
